As we are entering PICL Season 10, we think it’s time to highlight some of our amazing coaches who volunteer their talents & skills, dedicate their time, and often share resources with our students and families on the team.
We couldn’t do this without you, thank you for being a mentor and coach!
We are starting this series with Coach Dave P, who not only has been with the team for several seasons, is a skilled and strong MTB coach with the background and experience that makes him a kind, smart and very patient coach who is able to navigate riding with and teaching kids of all abilities.
We asked our coaches a few questions so we can get to know them a bit better:
When did you join the team as a coach?
in 2021
* Coach Dave joined LVC MTB in 2021 as a level 1 coach and has been holding a level 2 license since 2022
Do you only ride mountain bikes?
I am a mountain, fat and road cyclist.
What’s your why?
An important reason that keeps me coaching is to share the benefits of an active life style using bikes with others.
Have you ever raced bikes?
I’ve been signing up for and riding different MTB events for 15ish years.
* You may see coach Dave at FSX or MASS Super Series races.
What other sports do you enjoy or even compete in?
I enjoy, canoeing, kayaking and fishing.
Tell us about your favorite trails.
The desert dunes of Mauritania, opened my eyes to the remote beauty of the Sahara. Adventure riding my fat bike with friends in the open space, north of the capital Nouakchott, where the Sahara meets the Atlantic, was the highlight of my time there.

What’s your best advice for parents new to the team and league?
All parents need to do is to continue supporting your child and the activities they participate in.
And lastly; what advice do yo have for our students when it comes to joining the team, perhaps unsure about racing or what to expect from being part of a MTB team?
Student riders just need to keep level pedals, eyes up, cover your brakes and have fun riding.
I lied, this one is last: If you were an animal, which one would you be and why?
I would choose to be a sled dog in Alaska, single minded and persistent.
