Bill Dovico – Meet the coaches

Bill Dovico

As we are entering PICL Season 10, we think it’s time to highlight some of our amazing coaches who volunteer their talents & skills, dedicate their time, and often share resources with our students and families on the team.

We couldn’t do this without you, thank you for being a mentor and coach!

Coach Bill and his son Liam joined the Lehigh Valley Composite teams in 2024. Coaching for the team inspired him to start a bike club at Northwestern Lehigh Middle school, where he serves as principal. Bike club is a great place for families to learn about joining the team. In 2025 Bill started the Northwestern Lehigh HS Team under our LV Lightning teams umbrella as new head coach, working closely with Bob Jones who leads the remaining teams.

We asked our coaches a few questions so we can get to know them a bit better:

When did you join the team as a coach?

Fall 2024

Do you only ride mountain bikes?

I have two bikes – a Poseidon X gravel bike and a Giant Trance trail bike. My Giant is my favorite bike.

What’s your why?

I’ve been mountain biking for over 20 years and it’s been my way to challenge myself, get exercise, and clear my head after a stressful day. More recently, My sons have picked up the sport and with Liam joining the team I love to see him grow and compete along with all the other kids on the team.

Have you ever raced bikes?

Yes, I raced in some of the MASS races this spring season, and I’ve done Trexxfest too.

What other sports do you enjoy or even compete in?

Outside of riding, I enjoy hunting and fishing.

Tell us about your favorite trails.

My favorite trail in the LV area is Nox. Further away I really enjoy riding at Raystown.

What’s your best advice for parents new to the team and league?

Get to know the other parents and coaches. They were a life line for me as we navigated our first season. We all became close and continued riding and racing together beyond the NICA season.

And lastly; what advice do you have for our students when it comes to joining the team, perhaps unsure about racing or what to expect from being part of a MTB team?

We are a tight knit community. Even if you’re unsure about racing the practices and riding together is such a rewarding and enjoyable experience.

I lied, this one is last: If you were an animal, which one would you be and why?

I would really enjoy the ability to fly…so a hawk or eagle.
